A lot of you will know me from my work with OnAir Tunes and also the work I do promoting and working with other bands on various radio stations and publications. Music has been and always will be one of the most important things in my life, as I am sure it is for most of you, but since hanging up my guitars 20 years ago and focusing on many other things in life – business / family / living – my return to music has been something of a difficult decision to make.
It was early in 2013 – almost 20 years to the month – that it was put to me that I should make a return. After much contemplation and soul searching I made the decision to dust off some of that near vintage gear and also replace some over exhausted items with new ones. A few demos and a lot of private chats with many close friends and musicians Carnival Star was born and an idea took form.
Not being in the position to suddenly up-root, go on tour or assume the life style of a “have van will travel” musician the plan therefore was to bring a literal carnival of musicians to the project. The music you will hear from Carnival Star is written, composed and for the main part played in full by myself. However there is a major twist in the project – and that is the essence of what Carnival Star is.
Vocalists and players from various bands around the world have, and are, being invited to take part and join the carnival. This, for me, is one of the exciting parts of this journey and one of the challenges laid out before all involved.
Who exactly is involved and taking part will be released as things move forward. We won’t spoil the party by giving you all the information in one post, but you will find out as we leak information and demos through this site.
The work that started a few short months ago has gained in momentum and those invited so far have given up time, worked hard and brought their own brand of darkness to the table and I am overwhelmed by the support and enthusiasm being shown for something that I had personally given up in a previous life.
It is my utmost pleasure and privilege to bring Carnival Star to you all and I look forward to sharing the hard work from all involved – and all who will be involved – as the carnival moves forward through the darkness.
